As a fashion designer with over 10 years of experience, one of the most important tools I rely on—especially when I’m feeling stuck creatively—is faith.

Whether I’m sewing, sketching, or designing a collection, there are moments when I feel overwhelmed or blocked. The number one thing that helps me push through those moments is believing in something greater than myself. Having faith that I will not only complete the project, but surpass even my own expectations, is what gives me the strength to keep going. Faith in the unseen, faith in the outcome, and faith in the purpose behind what I’m creating.

🧠 Practical Steps to Beat Creative Block:

Here are some strategies I personally use when I feel like my creativity has hit a wall:

1. Pray Over Your Project

Take a moment to connect with your purpose. Invite God into the process. Sometimes a quiet prayer can bring the exact clarity you’ve been waiting for.

2. Create a Plan of Action

    •    Write a list of your project goals

    •    Break it down into steps

    •    Time block each task

    •    Give yourself grace, but stay accountable

3. Designate Thinking Time

Set aside at least 14 minutes a day just to think—without distractions. This is your moment to dream, visualize, and re-center. Creativity often needs space and stillness to bloom.

4. Fuel Your Body and Spirit

Creative energy flows better when you feel good.

    •    Eat a nutritious meal

    •    Stay hydrated

    •    Move your body (even a short workout helps)

    •    Meditate or stretch

    •    Step outside and get some fresh air

5. Start with a Mood Board

When I’m planning a photoshoot and don’t know where to begin, I always start with a mood board. It gives me direction and inspiration. If you’re new to this, don’t worry—check out my next article where I break down exactly how to create an effective and inspiring mood board.

💛 Final Thoughts:

Creative block is real—but it doesn’t have to stop you. With faith, intention, and the right structure, you will get through it. Trust your process. Trust the Creator. And trust that what you’re making has value—even if you can’t see it fully yet.
